EVALUATION OF PTEN AND PI3K/AKT EXPRESSIONS IN STANOZOLOL-TREATED RAT KIDNEYS

Objective: Stanozolol is an anabolic androgenic steroid (AAS) that widely used by teenagers and athletes in bodybuilding, sports, athletics. The potential effects of stanozolol kidney functions have not been defined. In this study we investigated the expression tumor suppressor protein phosphatase tensin homolog (Pten) mRNA levels phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate 3 kinase (Pi3k) B (Akt1) signaling pathway rat kidneys treated stanozolol. Material Method: Rats were randomized to 5 groups as control, solvent (stanozolol), solvent-exercise, steroid-exercise. Subcutaneous injection (5 mg/kg) was applied for 28 days swimming exercise performed 20 min/day, days/week groups. Expression PTEN evaluated immunohistochemistry. Also, Pten, Pi3k, Akt1 expressions analyzed via RT-PCR. Results: Mesangial cells renal tubules showed strong (+++) reactivity against weak group. Moderate detected Pten significantly decreased, Pi3k increased group versus other (p<0.001). increase while decrease with treatment (p<0.05). Conclusion: Our findings suggest AAS usage may inhibit kidneys, which can be associated levels. Exercise protective on stanozolol-exposed due decreased Akt1.
